Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within

In the year 2065, the earth is invaded by aliens called Phantoms. Dr. Aki Ross, with the help of Dr. Sid and the Deep Eyes Military Squad, must do everything to stop these mysterious aliens from taking over the planet. The movie was directed by the creator of the Final fantasy series and was known to be the first movie that brought photorealism in the big screen. Fans of the video game were initially disappointed because the storyline was different from the game but the movie was successful enough and earned two sequels (Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children and Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV).

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider

Lara Croft reads a letter left behind by her father and takes it to be her responsibility to stop the Illuminati from getting an artifact that will allow them to control the world. Angelina Jolie’s portrayal of the adventurous and sexy tomb raider was iconic and pushed her to superstar status. When the movie was released, it beat the opening record for a video game adaption.

Resident Evil

A deadly virus has been released in the underground genetics lab of Umbrella Corporation turning hundreds of staff and lab animals into zombies. The lab goes into lockdown in order to prevent the virus from spreading outside. The movie is filled with references to the game which has pleased fans of the game. The movie was a success that to date, there are six movies in the Resident Evil series.


The orc shaman Gul’dan opens a portal to the human realm of Azeroth. He organizes the orc clans to unite into one army called the Horde. In order to protect Azeroth from the orcs, King Llane, the mighty warrior Anduin, and the powerful wizard Medivh join forces. The storyline was based on the first Warcraft game, Warcraft: Orcs and Humans.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

Dastan, the adopted son of Persia’s king gets hold of a magical dagger that allows the bearer to turn back time. The dagger is protected by a princess who he takes with her as he escapes the city when he gets blamed for the death of the king. Just like the Prince of Persia game, there were a lot of jumping from one building to another and plenty of action.

Assassin’s Creed

Cal finds out that he is a descendant of a member of the Assassins, a secret society. Through a technology that allows retrieving genetic memories in the DNA, Cal is made to travel back in time in 15th century Spain where he takes up the identity of his ancestor. The movie showed a lot of swift parkour moves that the game is known for.

Silent Hill

Rosa de Silva is worried about her daughter’s sleepwalking and decides to take her daughter to Silent Hill. She meets a car crash on the way and when she regains consciousness, she finds that her daughter is not around. Now she must wander around Silent Hill to look for her daughter. The film has incorporated a lot of aspects from the game that satisfied a lot of gamers. Gamers were particularly pleased with the inclusion of Pyramid Head, which was just as terrifying as its video game counterpart.

Mortal Kombat

Three martial artists are picked by Lord Raiden to represent Earth in an ancient tournament called the Mortal Kombat. They have to defeat warriors from other world to save Earth from invasion. The movie has a lot of killer combat scenes and an awesome soundtrack from the 90s.
